I'm Aleksander Brenn, one of the three Norwegian watch enthusiasts who started ÁIGI in 2017, above the Arctic Circle. I write most of what you read on this blog — the movement guides, the buying advice, and the stories behind our designs.
What I actually do
ÁIGI is a small brand, so my work covers most of the journey a watch takes: choosing movements, deciding case dimensions and dial details, and working through the dozens of small trade-offs that decide whether a watch feels right on the wrist. All of our design and development happens in Norway; production is carried out abroad so we can source components like Sellita and Ronda movements from Switzerland, Seiko and Miyota movements from Japan, sapphire crystal, and Horween leather from Chicago.
That day-to-day work is also why I write the way I do. When I explain the difference between a caller GMT and a traveller GMT, it's because we had to make exactly that choice for the Arctic GMT. When I write about meca-quartz chronographs, it's the movement we chose for the Arctic Chrono II — and I'll tell you honestly what it does well and where its limits are.
Projects and recognition
Beyond our main collections, I've led custom watch projects for organisations including KSAT (Kongsberg Satellite Services) and a USAF F-35 squadron. Our Gruvebus was featured by Time+Tide, and our watches have been covered by Oracle Time.
How I write
Every technical claim on this blog is checked against manufacturer documentation and established references before publishing. If a movement has a limitation, I say so — credibility comes from honesty, not hype. If you ever spot something you believe is wrong, tell me and I'll check it.
